The Christmas holidays are usually a time to spend with family, to spend with friends, and to see how much food you can consume in a short amount of time. However, if we are honest with ourselves, it’s also a great time to either catch up on stuff we have missed, or watch the classics we love.

Here are the 3 Christmas movies I’ll be watching in between turkey sandwiches and mince pies!

Batman Returns

Yes! This is a Christmas movie! It may have been released in the middle of July, but the movie is set during Christmas. Note the big Christmas tree and presents flying everywhere when Batman is taking out Penguin’s goons. Not only do we get the return of Michael Keaton as the caped crusader, we get Danny DeVito as an awesome Penguin as well as the best live action Catwoman we have ever got. This was before any connected universes and before we got the avalanche of super hero movies, and it still holds up as a great super hero movie!

Nightmare Before Christmas

Another Tim Burton Classic makes it on to my list. Nightmare before Christmas is a great stop motion animation that tells the story of Jack Skeleton, who lives in Halloween land, and wants to become Santa. It has Burton’s visuals dripping out of it and for anyone who knows anything about stop motion, it’s truly painstaking, will know how great an achievement this was, especially back in the early 90s. It’s funny and a little dark but a great movie for all the family to enjoy!

Die Hard

The ultimate Christmas movie and easily the best Die Hard movie. Now there’s still the ongoing debate whether this is a Christmas movie. I’ll point you towards what the hostages were doing before the building was taken over, a what, o yeah, a Christmas party.  We get the awesome Hans Gruber as a menacing villain as well as our introduction to John McClane. Possibly Bruce Willis’ best movie and admit it, you’ve said his infamous catchphrase! So Yippee Ki Yay Merry Christmas!

Honourable mentions have got to go to The Grinch and Elf. Two awesome Christmas movies for all the family and if you’ve got the time, definitely fit them in!

This is what I’ll be watching over Christmas, what movies do you guys watch?
